Policy on Equal Opportunities

It is the policy of SCR (Smart Choice Recruitment) that all eligible persons shall have equal opportunity for employment and advancement within SCR, and endorse this practice within a company, organisation, trust or charity with which we trade, on the basis of their ability and qualifications and fitness for work. There is to be no discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, race or physical disability against any eligible person whether in recruitment, training, promotion or in any other way, at any time.

SCR are recognised to be a leader in supplying specialist recruitment services to many of the best companies and organisations in the UK. Providing permanent, Contract and Interim positions in SCRs' specialist areas, also by the professionalism, dedication and loyalty of its staff. SCR needs to ensure that the staff are able to maintain the highest standards, therefore SCR owes it to its staff to provide a working environment in which they can enjoy as much security and confidence as possible. Equal opportunities are the cornerstone of recruitment and so are vital to SCR being able to deliver the most effective and efficient service to candidate and employer alike.

It is illegal to discriminate against people at work because of their gender, disability, marital status or racial origin. Discrimination means treating a person less favourably than you would another person in the same circumstances. SCR equal opportunities policy is based on the Sex Discrimination Acts of 1975 and 1986, the Race Relations Act of 1976, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act 1944 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

SCR aims to work to the spirit of anti-discrimination legislation, not just the letter of the law. It will continue to develop positive practices to eliminate all forms of direct or indirect discrimination. As an employee at SCR, whatever your position or role, you have a duty to implement the equal opportunities policy and to ensure that all colleagues are treated with respect and dignity. Discrimination, harassment or victimisation is not permitted or condoned and should they occur, you must exercise your right to make a complaint.

It is SCRs' policy that sexual harassment (i.e. un-reciprocated attention, comments or display of sexually offensive material) and racist remarks and behaviour will not be tolerated and could lead to disciplinary action against the offender. There should also be no discrimination against any member of staff on account of his or her sexual orientation (e.g. homosexual, lesbians, bisexuals or people gender changed).

Under the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act, it is illegal to treat anyone with a disability less favourably than others because of their disability. SCR is committed to offering people with disabilities their full share of opportunities in the work environment.

Language in both spoken and written communication should be neutral, avoiding insensitive terms and stereotyping.
